A SAMPLE LIST OF POSSIBLE TOPICS

The Wisconsin Labor History Society has had the most success helping students learn about labor history when they do projects on people or topics that involve their own families or communities. The students have an inherent interest in such subjects, and, through their own contacts, they have access to information that may not be available elsewhere. Building out from such information, they can expand their research into more traditional sources, whether in print or online. Thus the Society recommends, first of all, that students ask their families and friends about people who were involved in labor organizations and issues. They should then ask their teachers if and how these people could be developed into either a topic for their History Day project or their submission to the WLHS Labor History Essay Contest.
