Governor proclaims Bay View Tragedy Day

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has proclaimed May 5 as “Bay View Labor Strike and Tragedy Remembrance Day.”  A frame containing the proclamation was presented to Candice Owley, coordinator of the Bay View Tragedy Commemoration Committee, at the 133rd Anniversary Commemoration of the event in which seven were killed when the State Militia fired into a group of marchers campaigning for the eight-hour-day.

A group of Wisconsin legislators who sought the proclamation made the presentation at the event this year in Milwaukee’s Bay View Neighborhood.

Presenting the proclamation were to Candice Owley (center), commemoration committee chair, were (from left) Rep. Jo Casta Zamarripa, Rep. Christine Sinicki, Sen. Chris Larson and Rep. Dan Riemer.
